The Department of Home Science Extension Education was established as an independent Department in the year 1979 and renamed as Extension Education and Communication Management in the year 2010. M.Sc. and Ph.D. programmes in the Department were started in 1979 and 1986, respectively. So far, 233 M.Sc. and 74 Ph.D. students have passed out from the Department.
The Department has expertise in designing and developing print (leaflet, poster, handout, flyer, booklets, extension literature etc.) and electronic (audio, video and multimedia) information material. Experiential Learning Unit on Designing and Production of Information Material is operational in the Department since 2009. All faculty members of the Department have doctorate degree and have been bestowed with various awards like ICAR sponsored Best Teacher Award; Best KVK Scientist Award; Fellow Award by professional societies ; Chaudhary Devi Lal Outstanding All India Coordinated Research Project team Award and Young Scientist Award.
The undergraduate final year students enrolled in the Module-IV offered by the Department under student READY programme are placed for in-plant training in reputed media organizations viz. Khabre Abhi Tak, Gurugram; Haryana News, Gurugram; ANB news, Chandigarh; MH One TV Network Ltd., Panchkula; Total TV, Chandigarh; Dainik Bhaskar & Dainik Jagran, Hisar; Hari Bhoomi, Rohtak; Dainik Jaltedeep, Jaipur; Community Radio Station, CCSHAU, Hisar; Gurugram Ki Aawaz, Community Radio, Gurugram; Doordarshan, Hisar; Exchange 4 Media Publication, New Delhi etc.
Seven students of Module IV attended in plant training under NAHEP Institutional Development Plan Project at Czech University of Life Science, Czech Republic; Asian Institute of Technology, Thailand and Can Tho University, Vietnam.
Department has undertaken 24 funded research projects till date. At present research under All India Coordinated Research Project on Women in Agriculture and State funded research scheme is being undertaken. One scheme under Scheduled Caste (SC) sub plan on entrepreneurship and skill development of SC rural women is also being implemented by the Department.
In order to stand up in the tough competition, the students need to possess extra valuable knowledge and skills which can make them recognized and distinguished from others. Hence, trainings for UG and PG students on topics like Skill development in handicrafts; Designing competencies with ICT tools; Communication skills & personality development and Research Project Management are regularly organized by the Department. This helps to develop soft skills and improve employability. Moreover, the students get an important element which they can add to their resumes by attending such trainings.
The focus of extension activities of the Department is on developing and strengthening horizontal and vertical linkages with various stakeholders working for welfare of rural community. The Department contributes significantly in capacity building of field functionaries, members of self-help groups and rural women to acquire the latest know-how by organizing short term trainings, extension activities and media exposure on need based messages.

system having Eucalyptus tereticornis as a strip plantation should be established on the water logged soils. In this model north to south field boundary is converted into 2.6 m wide and 45 cm high raised bund on which two rows of trees can be planted. The intervening space is left for the crops with minimum of shade effect due to the north-south direction of bunds� initiated by Drs. O.P. Toky, Rajiv Angrish and J.C. Kaushik included in the HAU Package of Practices.
Van Mahotsav was celebrated at CCS HAU premises in Botanical Garden of the Department of Botany & Plant Physiology On 27th July, 2015. The guest of honour in the function was honourable Agriculture Minister Sh. O.P.Dhankar. The Agriculture Minister, Vice -Chancellor (Dr. K.S.Khokhar), Member of Board (Dr. Ramesh Yadav) & Dean PGS (Dr. Rajbala Grewal) planted Tejpata, Putjeeva, Raintree and Chandni trees in Botanical Gardn.
On 20th August, 2015 tree plantation programme was conducted by the Department of Botany & Plant Physiology, College of Basic Sciences & Humanities in the Botanical Garden. The Deputy Director General (Crop Science) Dr. J.S.Sandhu Guest of Honour planted trees, along with dignitaries Vice -Chancellor (Dr.K.S.Khokhar), Registrar (Dr.M.S.Dahiya), Director of Research (Dr.S.S.Siwach), Dean, COA (Dr. R.K.Pannu) & Dean, COBS&H (Dr.R.KJain). The planted trees were Sacred Ashoka, Kachnar, Dalchini, Ashok and Ficus Sp.
Organized 4 day Third Indian Palynological conference on Palynology in Crop Production & Improvement in Sepetember 21-23, 1981.
Organized 3 day Symposium of Plant Physiology (1984) in collaboration with Indian Society for Plant Physiology, New Delhi.
The Department organized National Level Training Programme on Biodrainaege: Potential and Practice funded by Ministry of Water Resources G.O.I., from Feb 1st to 6th, 2008. Dr. R. Angrish of this Department was the Course Director, held at DHRM, CCS HAU, Hisar.
