Biotechnology is a broad discipline in which biological processes, organisms, cells or cellular components are exploited to develop new technologies for the benefit of mankind. It is one of the young courses in the educational arena as compared to other disciplines. Biotechnology has been growing very rapidly giving new tools and products which are useful in research, agriculture, industry and the health. Thus, the role of biotechnology here becomes to find out the best possible technological measure that does not disturb nature much and finally proves to be beneficial for the mankind. There are various kinds of microorganisms and small particles which need to be exploited to render them useful to mankind in various ways, such as help in manufacturing of medicine, or their extractions can be used in as vaccines. Not only this, biotechnology also includes study and disposal mechanisms of various wastes in a way that they do not harm any biological diversity. Biotechnology also has immense potential in the agriculture, with a wide range of applications that include marker assisted selection, climate resilience, molecular breeding, sex identification in dioecious plants, characterization of agronomically important traits, market-driven products etc. Read more
