The college of Agriculture, Kaul is an integral part and accredited to CCS HAU, Hisar. It was taken over from Kurukshetra University and started in 1972 with the idea to impart quality and scientific training to students in the field of agriculture. The first admission to this college was made in 1974. Initially this college imparted education for the first years i.e. 1 and 2 year of 5 year programme and after that, the students were migrated to the main campus at CCSHAU, Hisar for completion of their degree programme. It attained the status of a fully fledged college after up-gradation in 1983. The first batch of B.Sc. (Hons) Agriculture degree passed out in 1986. The college has thus far contributed around 1513 well-trained graduates to the human resource pool of agriculture and allied sectors.  Many alumni of the college have risen to exalted positions and gained recognition both at national and international levels. At present, there are 211 students on roll including 107 girls admitted for B.Sc.(Hons) Agri. 4- year programe and Post graduate programme.

College of Agriculture, Kaul situated on the outskirts of village Kaul, district Kaithal, Haryana (29.8498o N latitude, 76.6615o E longitude) is an importantconstituent college of Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University (CCS HAU), Hisar. College of Agriculture, Kaul has its beginning as a constituent collegeof Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra in the erstwhilestate of joint Punjab. Aftercreation of the state of Haryana in 1966, HaryanaAgricultural University came into being at Hisar in the year 1970. The College of Agriculture, Kaul was integrated into the Haryana Agricultural University in 1974 with the motto to impart quality and scientific educationto students in the field of agriculture.

Initially, the academic session was started for B.Sc. (Hons) Agri. having both i.e. 4 year and 5 year programmes at Kaul campus. The classes for 1st year under 4- year programme, and 1st and 2nd year under 5-year programme were initiated at Kaul campus and the rest of classes were conducted at the main campus of HAU, Hisar. Dr. M.S.Chaudhary was the founder Principal who served the college from 28-7-1974 to 11-5-1977 and thereafter eighteeneminent Professors headedthe post of Principal till date, under whose leadership the college has made significant achievements in the field of academics, sports, NCC/NSS and other co-curricular activities. College of Agriculture, Kaul was upgraded to a full-fledged college in 1983 and the first batch completed their graduation in 1986. It is a matter of pride that during the period under consideration (April 2018 to March 2023) from a total of 15 University Gold Medals awarded to the studentsof B.Sc. (Hons.)Agriculture stream in the University, 07 medals have been won by the students of College of Agriculture, Kaul. Many students won laurels in national level competitions in sports and other co-curricular activities like NCC/NSS etc.

During this long journey of 49 years, a total of 1513 students have completed their B.Sc. (Hons) Agri. degree from this esteemed college. Presently, 211 students including 107 girls are enrolled for B.Sc. (Hons) Agri. 4- year programe. Later, postgraduate programme of M.Sc. (Agriculture) and Ph.D. was initiated in threedisciplines of Agronomy, Soil Science and Genetics & Plant Breedingin the year 2019-20. Presently, 12 M.Sc. studentsand 9 Ph.D. students are enrolled in this college.

Infrastructural Development

  • The department has a Botanical Garden spread over an area of 10.5 acres with rich biodiversity. The department has done pioneering work in conserving the indigenour local species of plant and also introduction of exotic specis (approximately 600) from other places. Various native and exotic trees, shurbs, herbs, climbers, aquatic plants, cacti and succulents have been collected and maintained for imparting knowledge to our students as well as related scientists. Flower shows are organized from time to time.
  • The department has 9 screening houses near the college building.
  • The department has developed 20 salinity micro plots to determine phyto-remediating potential of halophytic flora and 24 lysimeter have been installed in field to determine the transpirational potential of trees having importannce in bio-drainage.
  • Experimental farms spread over 25 acres have been developed to evaluate bio-drainage potential of trees to improve waterlogged soils.

Package and Practices

system having Eucalyptus tereticornis as a strip plantation should be established on the water logged soils. In this model north to south field boundary is converted into 2.6 m wide and 45 cm high raised bund on which two rows of trees can be planted. The intervening space is left for the crops with minimum of shade effect due to the north-south direction of bunds� initiated by Drs. O.P. Toky, Rajiv Angrish and J.C. Kaushik included in the HAU Package of Practices.

Other Activities of the Department

Van Mahotsav was celebrated at CCS HAU premises in Botanical Garden of the Department of Botany & Plant Physiology On 27th July, 2015. The guest of honour in the function was honourable Agriculture Minister Sh. O.P.Dhankar. The Agriculture Minister, Vice -Chancellor (Dr. K.S.Khokhar), Member of Board (Dr. Ramesh Yadav) & Dean PGS (Dr. Rajbala Grewal) planted Tejpata, Putjeeva, Raintree and Chandni trees in Botanical Gardn.

On 20th August, 2015 tree plantation programme was conducted by the Department of Botany & Plant Physiology, College of Basic Sciences & Humanities in the Botanical Garden. The Deputy Director General (Crop Science) Dr. J.S.Sandhu Guest of Honour planted trees, along with dignitaries Vice -Chancellor (Dr.K.S.Khokhar), Registrar (Dr.M.S.Dahiya), Director of Research (Dr.S.S.Siwach), Dean, COA (Dr. R.K.Pannu) & Dean, COBS&H (Dr.R.KJain). The planted trees were Sacred Ashoka, Kachnar, Dalchini, Ashok and Ficus Sp.

Training/Symposium /Conference Organized

Organized 4 day Third Indian Palynological conference on Palynology in Crop Production & Improvement in Sepetember 21-23, 1981.

Organized 3 day Symposium of Plant Physiology (1984) in collaboration with Indian Society for Plant Physiology, New Delhi.

The Department organized National Level Training Programme on Biodrainaege: Potential and Practice funded by Ministry of Water Resources G.O.I., from Feb 1st to 6th, 2008. Dr. R. Angrish of this Department was the Course Director, held at DHRM, CCS HAU, Hisar.
