Established in 1972 with the start of research work on wheat breeding. Research schemes on sugarcane, seed production of forage and vegetables were started in 1976. In 1979 sugarcane research was shifted from Yamunanagar to this station. The maize research was commenced in 1979 and was strengthened by NARP in 1984. This station is multidisciplinary and multi crop research station primarily meant to meet research needs of north-eastern region of Haryana. The major thrust is on the research of sugarcane/rice-wheat/ maize based cropping system in Haryana and also focuses on other major crops of the region. At present total area of the research station is 30 acres, out of which 10 acres 6 Kanal is under buildings, road etc. and 19 acres 2 Kanal is under cultivation while 45 acres is at RRS, Kaul and Anjanthali. Seventeen scientists are working under different disciplines supported by three senior technical assistants and twenty-one field and office staff. Three AICRP programmes i.e. AICRP on Sugarcane, Maize and Weed control are in operation at this centre. Faculty is involved in teaching undergraduate and post graduate courses and also to guide post graduate students in different disciplines of agriculture. The centre also organizes farmer fairs/trainings/frontline demonstrations/kisan melas/gosthis on different aspects of sugarcane, maize and weed control in different crops to exhibit and transfer the technologies to the farmers. This centre has been declared best AICRP centre of Maize in the country in 2012 by ICAR New Delhi. ICAR has also declared Regional Research Station, Karnal as best AICRP weed control centre during the year 2014.During the 24^th convocation of CCS Haryana Agricultural University, Hisar RRS, Karnal has been conferred as Best Research Station Award for the period of 2010-14. This center has been declared Excellent Research Centre, 2019-20 during the 33^rd Biennial Workshop on AICRP Sugarcane at ICAR-IISR, Lucknow on October 19-20, 2020.
