KrishiVigyan Kendra (KVK) is a district level innovative farm science centre which under take vocational trainings of farmers, farm women and rural youths sponsored by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and working under State Agricultural Universities, selected NGOs, ICAR institutes and State Department of Agri. of almost all states of the country for testing and transfer of Agricultural technologies to bridge the gap between production and productivity and to create self-employment opportunities. KVK is a dynamic platform where all training needs/skill upgradation of the farmers and extension functionaries are addressed by skilled faculty. KrishiVigyanKendras provide intensive hands on skill and knowledge oriented trainings in multidisciplinary areas like Crop production, Plant protection, Horticulture, Home Science, Agro-Forestry, Extension Education, Agriculture Engineering and so on to encourage unemployed farm youth and farmwomen to start their own agro- based enterprise in their locality. The trainings offered in the KVKs follow the principles of “Learning by doing” and “Seeing is believing”. KVKs also conduct On Farm Trials (OFTs) and Front Line Demonstrations (FLDs) to promptly demonstrate the latest technologies in the field of Agriculture and allied disciplines to the farming community and extension workers. The KVKs are known as the light house of knowledge to the farming community of the district. Keeping the importance of KVKs in the country, KVK, Sonipat was established in 1st August, 1992 under the administrative control of CCSHAU, Hisar at village Jagdishpur (Narela Road) district Sonipat.
