The agriculture and allied sector continues to be pivotal to the sustainable growth and development of the Indian economy. Not only does it meet the food and nutritional requirements of 1.3 billion Indians, it contributes significantly to production, employment and demand generation through various backward and forward linkages. Moreover, the role of the agricultural sector in alleviating poverty and in ensuring the sustainable development of the economy is well established.
CCS Haryana Agricultural University is imparting education in agriculture and allied sciences. The goal of the university is to promote the integration of teaching, research and extension training with a view to promote the productivity in agriculture by serving as a premier educational and research organization in the fields of agriculture and allied sciences in the State of Haryana. The University have the expertise in quality assurance, marketing and developed various technologies in areas related to production and protection of different crops, development of new varieties, farm management, organic/precision farming, floriculture, mushroom production, tissue culture, nursery raising, apiculture, post harvest management, food processing and engineering aspects etc. University has identified 130 technologies for commercialization and consistently trying for adoption & commercialization these technologies through its extension net work of KVKs and Business Planning & Development Unit and IPR Cell. Although these efforts yielded significant results, yet to compete in the emerging global scenario of commercialization, an addition of agribusiness activities was needed.
It is realized that most of the unemployed educated youth have innovative ideas but generally don't have expertise and infrastructure facilities for starting business unit in agriculture and allied disciplines. Moreover, they lack know-how about technologies, quality assurance and certification procedures and their implementation. Many of them aspire to acquire new skill sets and gain hands on experience on use of technology. These youth need hand holding and support to emerge as confident and skilled entrepreneurs in agriculture & allied sectors In order to strengthen the entrepreneurial activities in the agricultural related fields in the state and to fill up the exiting gap, CCS HAU has submitted a project proposal for Establishment of Agribusiness Incubation Centre with focus on innovations, skill building and entrepreneurs development in agriculture & allied sectors to NABARD and NABARD has approved and sanctioned grant assistance of Rs.1174.85 lakhs (Rupees eleven crore seventy four lakh eighty five thousand only) for establishing NABARD Agri Business Incubation Centre (ABIC) at CCS HAU, Hisar.
ABIC is being set up in CCS HAU, which can provide guidance, technology and infrastructure and focus on capacity building through counseling, training and business advisory services related to agriculture and allied areas for helping the students/farmers/unemployed youths/entrepreneurs for starting, running and sustaining the business in different areas of agriculture with the emphasis on quality assurance & safety parameters, certification, branding and marketing of different products. The centre will not only commercialize the available technologies and help the client to develop skill for establishing own unit, create jobs and build wealth to Small and Medium Entrepreneurs but will work to provide end to end solutions for innovators and entrepreneurs in commercially testing their agri-business models and up scaling them. Provision of continuous handholding support in terms of capacity building, knowledge dissemination, business development, marketing etc. by the Centre is expected to benefit many budding entrepreneurs in the State over a period of time and generate gainful employment.
I hope the ABIC will work as catalyst for developing an ecosystem conducive for growth of agripreneurship in the State and foster a "Start-up" culture.
